Child dies the Police are investigating near Mudgee

Police are appealing for information from the public as they investigate the suspicious death of a 20-month-old boy in the state’s Central West last week.
About 5.15am on Monday 23 March 2015, emergency services were called to a home on Merrygoen Road at Neilrex, about 60km south of Coonabarabran.
They were responding to a report of a toddler who had been coughing, and who appeared not to be breathing.
The child was taken to Coolah District Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Police from Mudgee Local Area Command formed Strike Force Toora to investigate the matter.
This included the execution of a crime-scene warrant at the Merrygoen Road property yesterday (Wednesday 1 April 2015), with assistance from the Forensic Services Group.
Inquiries to date suggest the death is suspicious, and police are now appealing for information from the public to progress the investigation.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Mudgee Detectives on (02) 6372 8599.
Strike Force Toora is an ongoing investigation by police from Mudgee Local Area Command. They are being assisted by officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/ Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
