O'Connor began working as a strip club bouncer at the Cross when he was 17, and spent the past two decades working as a manager of clubs, strip joints and security firms.

During testimony at the 1995 Wood royal commission into police corruption, he said he had worked as a manager at the Pink Panther, Pink Pussycat, Stripperama and on the door at Porkies.

"I hired girls and waitresses and doormen and made sure that no money was stolen," O'Connor told the hearing..
